How to Find and Replace Text Online

To find and replace text, paste your text, enter what to find and what to replace it with, and apply. The Find & Replace tool shows how many matches it found and supports plain-text, whole-word and case options.

How to use the Find & Replace

  1. Paste your text into the input box.
  2. Enter the word or phrase to find and the replacement.
  3. Choose options such as match case or whole word.
  4. Check the match count, then copy the updated text.

Worked example

Replacing “colour” with “color” in “The colour of the colourful car” gives “The color of the colorful car” with 2 matches, or only 1 if you choose whole-word matching.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Use whole-word matching so replacing “cat” does not change “category”.
  • Leave the replacement empty to delete every match.
  • Check the match count first to confirm you are changing what you expect.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a replacement?

Your original stays in the input box, so you can simply adjust and run again.

Is my text private?

Yes. Replacement runs in your browser.

What does whole-word matching do?

It only matches the exact word, not the same letters inside a longer word.

Try the Find & Replace Free, instant, and runs in your browser.
