Formula

Every unit is converted through meters as a common base: result = value × (factor of "from" unit) ÷ (factor of "to" unit). The imperial factors used are the exact international-agreement definitions, not rounded approximations:

• 1 inch = 0.0254 m (exact, 1959 international yard/pound agreement)
• 1 foot = 0.3048 m (exact, 12 inches)
• 1 yard = 0.9144 m (exact, 3 feet)
• 1 mile = 1609.344 m (exact, 5280 feet)

Worked example: converting 1 meter to feet: 1 ÷ 0.3048 = 3.28084 ft.
